In Human Society and its Environment (HSIE), both subjects of history and geography are mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
Students learn specific historical and geographical concepts and skills in history and geography. They also have an opportunity to learn more about people and the societies and environments in which they live through elective subjects. A large number of individual subjects make up the key learning area of HSIE in which students: research, gather and analyse information; question and make judgements; write for a variety of purposes.

Courses
STAGE 4: Y7 & Y8
- Y7 students follow NESA endorsed Stage 4 History AND Geography programs in a semesterised format. Two classes are streamed while the remainder are mixed ability. Topics explored included Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Landscapes and Landforms and Place and Liveability.
- Y8 continues with Stage 4 History and Geography. The History and Geography programs are delivered in a semesterised format. Topics explored include Contact and Colonisation, Voyages of Discovery, Water in the World and Interconnections.
- History Elective, Geography Elective, Commerce, Aboriginal Studies and International Studies are offered as a 100 hour elective option.
- Courses are banded in streams.
STAGE 5: Y9 & Y10
- Y9 follows NESA endorsed Stage 5 History AND Geography programs in a semesterised format. Two classes are streamed while the remainder are mixed ability. Topics taught include The Movement of People, The World Wars, Biomes and Food Security and Changing Places.
- Y10 continues with Stage 5 History and Geography. One class is streamed while the remainder are mixed ability. The History and Geography programs are delivered in a semesterised format. In Year 10 students will study the Holocaust, Changing Rights, Environmental Change and Management and Human Wellbeing.
- History Elective, Geography Elective, Commerce and Aboriginal Studies and International Studies are offered as a 200-hour elective option.
- Courses are banded in streams.
STAGE 6: Y11 & Y12
- Y11 and Y12 courses offered by the Humanities faculty include Ancient History, Modern History, History Extension, Society and Culture, Aboriginal Studies, Business Studies, Legal Studies, Geography and Studies of Religion
